Worship Arts Camp for Kids (WACK) Coming in August

WACK is coming in August!  invite all the children you know to attend this amazing camp!  Worshiping God is exciting and it's important for children to know this!  We can worship God in so many ways and WACK teaches this to kids!  At WACK, kids can choose from classes like Drama, Visual Arts, Instruments, Puppetry and more.  Preregistration is going to be required this year, so be on the lookout for more information.  WACK is Saturday, August 28th from 10:00am-4:00pm and Sunday, August 29 the WACK kids will do the worship service for the church at 10:30am.

5 @ 5: Celebrating, Praising, Singing, Teaching and Fellowship, will start the new year of servies on August 22.  The first annual Summer Concert Series was great, but we are ready to being our time of music and devotions together.  Plan to join us every Sunday evening for a service of Celebrating, Praising, Singing, Teaching and Fellowship.  We will meet each Sunday evening from 5:00-6:00 in the sanctuary at First Church.  For more information check out the 5 @ 5 Blog.

Calling All Golfers--First Church Golf Tournament--Oct. 9

Do you play golf?  Do you have friends or family that play golf?  Then the First Church Golf Tournament is for you!  The tournament will be held on Saturday, October 9 at Lakeview Golf Course beginning at 1:30pm.  Get your foursome together right now and take part in the fun!  The entry fee will be $75 and will include your round of golf, a cart, dinner at the church and more.  Registration will begin in just a few weeks, so get your foursome together now!

Are you a business owner?  Do you know someone that owns a business that would like to sponsor a hole for the golf tournament?  We are looking for businesses, organizations, or individuals that would be willing to sponsor a hole for tournament.  The cost of sponsorship is $100 per hole, and every golfer that takes place in the tournament will see your sign.  For more information contact the church office at (540) 434-8288.

Emily Young Returns Safely from her Fifth Trip to Sudan

Emily Young's fifth trip to Nimule, Sudan went well, as her team continued the work that she started four years ago.  Emily arrived back in the United States in July from her time in Sudan.  Thank You Emily for allowing God to work through you to help the people of Nimule.

Small Group Sign-ups are Only a Month Away!

If you have been thinking about becoming a part of a small group, you will soon have the opportunity to sign up to be part of one.  There are some interesting discussions going on about possible new groups forming, older groups taking on new members, and special interest groups forming.  Watch for a small group listing come up in August.

First Church Sends Countless "Gifts of the Heart Kits"

In Phase One of First Church's response to the earthquake in Haiti, the church purchased, assembled and sent over 300 health kits, baby kits, disaster clean-up buckets to the Brethren Service Center in New Windsor, Maryland.  The church also made a monetary donation to Church World Service to help with clean-up from the disaster.  First Church has a group that is meeting to continue to discuss the way that First Church will help the people of Haiti.  Watch for more details, including the possibility of sending several groups of people to Haiti later in 2010.

"True North" Sponsoring an "All Church Needs & Gifts Board"

The Men's Group (True North) is sponsoring a new ministry in our church called the "Needs & Gifts Bulletin Board."  This board is next to the water fountain on the west side of the narthex, and our vision for this board is that it can be a place where anyone in our church can express a service need that they have while other members of the church and of the Men's group can try to meet those needs.  The bulletin board itself will have two columns, one for needs you have and one for gifts (services) you can offer others.  Please fill out a slip of paper with your name, your need or gift and you phone number and the Men's Group will try to fulfill those needs.  If you have questions about the board please contact Derek Young.
