Welcome to Our New Members
We rejoice with the decision of our new members to follow Jesus, continuing the work of Jesus peacefully, simply and together through First Church. Wendy Weldon, Ricardo Lianez, Breanne Bosley, Adrian Lokey, Madeline Newkirk, Cole Lokey, Zachary Lokey and Torrik Watlington were baptized into membership on May 11, 2008. Allicyn Buracker, Deanna Sherman, John Smith and Judith Smith are our new members by Affirmation of Faith and Church Membership Transfer. We welcome all new members to be believers and disciples in the body of Christ.
Project Nimule Update
Emily Young and Jana Burtner departed for Nimule, Sudan on Tuesday, May 13. Emily has spent the last year coordinating projects for other Solidarity Workers who will join her in Sudan. This summer will be Emily's third trip to Nimule. Jana will be one of the Solidarity workers who joins Emily for the 2008 summer, Jana will be teaching art to the kids and young adults of Nimule. Emily and Jana will remain in our prayers for safe travel and safety as they hope to change the lives of other Christians in the region.

2008 Softball Season is Underway
The First Church softball team plays all its games at Linville Edom Elementary School in Linville, VA. Everyone is invited to Come join the fun and watch the team play. For more information, or to check the most recent updates check out the softball website.

Men's Fellowship Study Group is Open for more Participants
The Men's Fellowship group will have gatherings in July on the 7th and the 21st. Watch for more information on the activities that will take place each of these nights.

2008 Annual Conference to be held in Richmond, VA
The Church of the Brethren will celebrate its 300th anniversary at Annual Conference 2008 being held in Richmond, VA July 12-July 16. If you are interested in traveling to Annual Conference, please call the church office.
Church Yard Sale to Benefit Project Niumule Travel Fund
We have scheduled an All Church Yard Sale for Saturday July 26 from 7:00-11:45am. Proceeds from the sale will benefit our Project Nimule Travel Fnd. If anyone has yard sale items to donate, please contact Derek Young or the Church office about the best time to drop them off, or we can arrange to pick them up.
Old Time Brethren Service to be held on August 3rd
As part of the 300th Anniversary Celebration of the Church of the Brethren, our church will hold an old time Brethren Service on Sunday August 3rd during the normal worship hour. Men and women will be seated on seperate sides of the sanctuary, there will be no musical instruments used in the service and former pastors from the Church of the Brethren will speak at the service. The service will begin at 10:30.
First Church Recognized by the Salvation Army
Harrisonburg First Church of the Brethren was recognized as one of three local congregations that provide weekly meals at the Salvation Army shelter in Harrisonburg. Various groups from First Church provide meals on Tuesday evenings to the homeless people who currently reside at the shelter.
